A group of activists walked through the hallways of the COP30 venue in Belém,
Brazil, shouting, “Stop the blah-blah, down with gas in Asia,” while holding
bright banners and signs against oil and gas drilling.
The COP30 venue — which used to be the city’s airport — has temporary walls,
so the activists’ loud chants could be heard inside the meeting rooms. In those
rooms, delegates from a group of mostly Asian countries were discussing how to
delay strong action on reducing the use of fossil fuels. This group is known as
the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC).
