AIADMK Crisis Deepens After Recent Bypoll Defeats

The internal crisis within the AIADMK has resurfaced following the party’s recent defeats in the by-elections. On Monday, dissident leaders of the party met in Chennai to review the election results and discuss the party’s future direction.

The meeting took place amid continuing tensions within the AIADMK after its defeat in the Assembly election in April. The party has also faced fresh challenges following its losses in the October 9 by-elections in Dharapuram and Madurantakam.

The latest defeats have added to the existing differences between the party leadership and a group of dissident leaders. The disagreements have continued since some members of the group supported the C Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government during the trust vote held in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on May 13.

Several MLAs attended Monday’s meeting, including former ministers SP Velumani, C Ve Shanmugam, Natham Viswanathan and P Thangamani. These leaders had earlier opposed the party leadership and voted in favour of the government during the trust vote.

Their participation in the latest meeting has once again drawn attention to the divisions within the AIADMK. The gathering provided an opportunity for the dissident group to discuss the reasons behind the recent election setbacks and consider the next steps.

The party is now facing questions about how it will address its internal disagreements and respond to its recent electoral losses. The differences between the leadership and the dissident camp remain a major challenge as the AIADMK looks to strengthen its position in Tamil Nadu politics.

The outcome of the meeting and the decisions taken by the dissident leaders could influence the party’s next course of action. However, it remains to be seen whether the discussions will lead to a resolution of the ongoing conflict or create further divisions within the party.
