In the past few weeks, AIADMK members in Coimbatore have been giving sports
kits to young people.
The program began in September, launched by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi
K. Palaniswami. Party workers are connecting with young people all over
thedistrict. While the official goal is to promote sports and fitness, political
experts believe the real aim is to attract young voters to AIADMK.
The party has also started a sports wing and is planning other activities to
connect with young people. This is seen as a way to take youth support away
from TVK and counter Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s youth programs.
“In Coimbatore, we have already distributed 150 cricket kits to different teams.
Our leader has also promised that sportspersons will get preference for government
jobs,” said Amman K. Arjunan, AIADMK MLA from Coimbatore North.
