Less than a week after announcing his retirement from international cricket, former India player Ajinkya Rahane has joined the Amsterdam Flames for the first edition of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). Known for his leadership during India’s tour of Australia in 2020-21, Rahane signed with Amsterdam Flames on Friday as one of their star players.
The team, led by Australian T20 captain Mitchell Marsh, already includes big names like Steve Smith and Tim David. Adding Rahane strengthens the batting line-up and leadership group, helping to guide players from countries like Netherlands, Italy, Nepal, and Ireland.
The ETPL, supported by the International Cricket Council (ICC), features six franchise teams representing cities in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Netherlands, and Scotland. Rahane’s former India teammate Ravichandran Ashwin is the captain of Dublin Guardians, which is owned by Rahul Dravid, another retired India captain and coach.
