Amy Hunt Wins Record Fourth Gold Medal

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Amy Hunt made history by winning her fourth gold medal at the European championships. This achievement came during Britain’s victory in the mixed 4×100 relay on Sunday. Hunt had already won two individual titles: the 100 and 200 meters, as well as a third gold in the women’s 4×100 relay the day before.

The team of Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, and Hunt secured victory with a time of 39.97 seconds. Germany finished second (40.11), and Spain came third (40.42). On the final leg, Hunt raced ahead of Gina Lückenkemper to claim gold.

“I’m so thrilled,” Hunt told the BBC. “To win with my closest friends in sport is truly amazing.”

Dina Asher-Smith also added another gold to her collection, making her the most decorated athlete at the championships. This was the first time a mixed 4×100 relay was included in the European championships.

Asher-Smith said she was excited but nervous about trying something new.

Meanwhile, Amanal Petros of Germany won the men’s marathon with a commanding 7-second margin. He broke the championship record with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 11 seconds. This victory came less than a year after he missed gold in a photo finish at the Tokyo World Championships.

In the women’s marathon, Finland’s Alisa Vainio dominated, finishing nearly five minutes ahead of Hungary’s Lili Anna Vindics-Toth. Britain’s Abbie Donnelly took bronze. Vainio also broke the championship record set in 2014 by almost three minutes.
