Andhra Pradesh Sets Sankranti Deadline for Road Repairs

With Sankranti set as the deadline, the bad condition of roads in Andhra Pradesh has once again drawn attention. The state of the roads is being seen as a test of how well the government can deliver on its promises.

Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy has ordered officials to repair all potholes on R&B roads in major coastal districts by January 10, 2026. He said the deadline must be followed strictly and added that all major road repair works should be finished by June 2026.

These instructions were given during a video conference with senior engineers from the former Krishna, West Godavari and East Godavari districts. The move follows repeated comments by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has said that road conditions are one of the most visible measures of a government’s performance.

The minister told officials to ensure that all Roads and Buildings department roads are free of potholes before Sankranti. This includes 10,880 km of roads across the three districts, covering 3,312 km of State Roads and 7,575 km of Major District Roads. He warned that any potholes left unrepaired after January 10, 2026, would not be tolerated.
