Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been penalized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct during a crucial match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. Raghuvanshi was dismissed for obstructing the field when the third umpire noticed him changing his position and believed he tried to block a throw from Mohammed Shami that could have reached his stumps.
The KKR team was surprised by the decision, and Raghuvanshi visibly showed anger upon returning to the dugout, throwing his bat and gloves in frustration.
BCCI has now imposed a fine of 20% of his match fee on Raghuvanshi and added one demerit point for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct Level 2. The incident occurred when, after being dismissed, Raghuvanshi aggressively struck the boundary cushion with his bat and then threw his helmet into the dugout.
Raghuvanshi admitted to the offence and accepted the penalty imposed by the Match Referee. A statement from the IPL confirmed that his actions breached Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which prohibits aggressive behavior towards cricket equipment or fixtures during a match.
