Angolan President Lourenço Stresses Need to Strengthen Ties During State Visit to India

Angolan President João Lourenço urged India to deepen cooperation with Angola during his recent state visit. He arrived in New Delhi earlier this week and met with top Indian leaders to discuss ways to boost ties between the two countries.

President Lourenço praised India for its friendship and support. He said both nations should work closely to improve trade, investment, energy, education, and health partnerships. He added that Angola values India’s growing role on the global stage and wants to build a long-term relationship based on mutual respect.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Angolan leader with full honors at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The leaders held official talks and signed several agreements to promote cooperation in areas like oil and gas, agriculture, technology, and infrastructure development.

During his speech, President Lourenço said, “It is important to strengthen cooperation between our two countries. We must explore more areas where we can grow together.” He also invited Indian businesses to invest in Angola and take part in the country’s development projects.

India, in turn, offered to share its expertise in digital technology, health care, and education. Indian leaders also thanked Angola for supporting India’s candidacy in global forums like the United Nations.

President Lourenço also visited key cultural and historical sites in Delhi. He paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and praised India’s rich history and democratic values. His visit marks a new step in India-Angola relations, which have grown steadily in recent years.

Officials from both sides described the visit as successful and said it created new opportunities for cooperation. India and Angola plan to hold regular meetings to follow up on the agreements and strengthen their partnership.

As Angola looks to diversify its economy beyond oil, and India seeks stronger ties with Africa, both countries see this visit as a major step forward.
