The Australian Open 2026 has changed its match schedule again because of very hot weather in Melbourne. Temperatures are expected to rise to 42°C, which has raised concerns about the safety of players and fans.
Due to the extreme heat, organisers have taken quick steps to reduce health risks. Wheelchair matches, including those of British defending champion Alfie Hewett, have been postponed to Wednesday, January 28.
Matches on the outside courts, especially junior games, will now start earlier at 9 AM local time. This change is meant to help players avoid playing during the hottest part of the day.
Officials said these decisions were made to protect everyone at the tournament and ensure the matches can continue safely despite the harsh weather.
