Axis Bank celebrates India’s 80th year of Independence with the launch of 50 new branches

As part of its Independence Week celebrations marking India’s 80th year of Independence, Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, inaugurated 50 new branches across the country. The expansion reflects Axis Bank’s continued investment in serving customers across diverse geographies and economic centres.

As India continues its growth journey, wider participation in the formal banking system remains crucial to enabling greater economic progress. Spanning urban, semi-urban and rural markets, the new branches will bring a comprehensive suite of banking services closer to customers while complementing the Bank’s technology-led banking ecosystem.

Located across West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, the branches are designed to deliver a seamless banking experience. Equipped with ATMs, accessible infrastructure, doorstep banking facilities and regional language support, they reinforce the Bank’s focus on customer convenience, inclusivity and local market relevance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Munish Sharda, Executive Director, Axis Bank, said, “As India continues to grow, banking has an important role to play in enabling broader economic participation and supporting aspirations across communities. The inauguration of 50 branches during Independence Week reflects our commitment to being present where growth is taking place and where customers need us most. At the same time, we are investing in new capabilities and experiences that make banking more convenient, secure, and relevant for a changing customer base.”

With a strong on-ground presence across the country, Axis Bank continues to combine scale with proximity to customers. Serving nearly 54 million customers, the Bank’s domestic network stood at 6,295 branches and 12,564 ATMs and cash recyclers as of June 30, 2026, with nearly 48% of branches located in rural and semi-urban markets. This network is further supported by the Bank’s Bharat Banking network of 2,937 branches across 685 districts, enabling it to serve customers across diverse geographies and economic segments.

Axis Bank continues to enhance the way customers bank through a combination of self-service, mobile and branch-led solutions. The Bank has introduced Express Banking Lobbies, compact self-service digital lobbies that provide round-the-clock access to services such as account opening, instant card issuance, cash transactions and bill payments. These innovations are supported by the Bank’s mobile banking platform, ‘open by Axis’, which serves over 16 million monthly active users, and its ‘Branch of the Future’ approach, which focuses on digitally enabled servicing and faster resolution of customer requests.

Guided by its dil se open philosophy, Axis Bank is investing in capabilities that bring together the trust of physical banking and the convenience of digital solutions, creating meaningful value for customers across the country.
