Bangladesh Lifts IPL Broadcast Ban, Allows Telecast

Bangladesh has lifted its ban on broadcasting the Indian Premier League (IPL), allowing fans in the country to watch the tournament on TV. This decision comes ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2026 season.

The new information and broadcasting minister, Zahir Uddin Swapan, stated that there are no restrictions on telecasting the IPL in Bangladesh. He emphasized that sports and politics should not be mixed, and any channel interested in broadcasting the IPL will receive a positive response if they apply.

Previously, the interim government had banned the IPL from being shown in Bangladesh. However, according to Rezaul Karim Lablu of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh, there are no current directives to stop Star Sports or any other channel from broadcasting the IPL.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that IPL 2026 will begin on March 28 with a match between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This season features 84 matches, making it the largest IPL schedule to date.

The tournament promises to be a thrilling event for cricket fans worldwide, with teams competing in what is expected to be an exciting season of T20 cricket.
