Bangladesh police have recovered the body of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant K.M. Tahsif Souri from the Turag River in the capital, Dhaka. The body was found on October 29, 2026, two days after he reportedly went missing. Police said they recovered it from the Rajabari Ghat area after receiving information about the incident.
Souri, who was in his late 20s, had reportedly gone missing on October 28. According to local media reports, he had earlier recorded a video showing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaving Bangladesh in an Air Force aircraft on August 5, 2024, during the political crisis that led to her departure from the country.
Firoz Uddin, the officer in charge of the Tongi River Police Outpost, said police recovered the body wearing a black shirt and white trousers. It was later sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The police officer did not provide details about whether there were any visible injury marks on the body.
According to the Daily Star, a mobile phone and wristwatch found with the body helped authorities identify Souri. However, officials have not yet announced the confirmed cause or circumstances of his death.
Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed declined to comment on whether the incident was connected to the video showing Hasina’s departure. He said a preliminary investigation was necessary and that the authorities would provide more information after receiving the autopsy findings and other details.
Local newspaper Prothom Alo reported that Souri had spent Tuesday shopping with his mother. He reportedly left home in the evening after receiving a phone call from a friend. Later that night, he sent a message to his mother saying that he was returning home. However, he did not reach home, and his family was unable to contact him.
Souri was dismissed from service in August 2024 and was reportedly under intelligence surveillance. During a social media podcast in July 2026, he was asked whether he had lost his job because he recorded the video of Hasina leaving the country. He reportedly responded briefly, saying, “could be.”
In a statement issued in August 2026, the Bangladesh Army said Souri had been retired from service in accordance with institutional rules under different circumstances. It also stated that there were no allegations against him in connection with his retirement.
The discovery of Souri’s body has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death. However, authorities have not confirmed any connection between the incident and the video involving Sheikh Hasina. Further details are expected after the autopsy and police investigation are completed.
