The Barbados Tridents ended their group-stage campaign on a winning note by defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The Tridents produced an excellent bowling performance to dismiss the Warriors for just 99 runs. It was the Warriors’ second-lowest total of the season and gave Barbados a comfortable target to chase.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors started their innings positively but soon lost control of the game. AM Ghazanfar changed the momentum by taking three wickets in just five deliveries.
Ghazanfar removed important players, including Mavendra Dindyal, Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope. His quick spell put the Warriors under heavy pressure and caused their batting order to collapse.
Quinton Sampson and Romario Shepherd tried to rebuild the innings and provided some resistance. However, Johann Layne broke their partnership by taking a key wicket. Layne also came close to completing a hat-trick as the Warriors continued to lose wickets.
The Guyana batting innings eventually came to an end with Sherfane Rutherford dismissing the final batsman. The Warriors were bowled out for only 99 runs, leaving the Tridents with a straightforward target.
Barbados made the chase look comfortable. Brandon King played a crucial role with an unbeaten 44, helping his team reach the target without much trouble. The Tridents completed the chase with six wickets in hand.
Although the Guyana Amazon Warriors suffered a heavy defeat, they still finished at the top of the group-stage standings because of their strong performances throughout the tournament.
The Barbados Tridents finished third in the group stage and secured their place in the playoffs. Their convincing victory over the Warriors will give the team confidence as they prepare for the knockout stage.
The Tridents will now look to carry their strong bowling performance and winning momentum into the playoffs, while the Warriors will prepare for their next challenge after finishing the group stage in first place.
