The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for two years due to discrepancies in his age-related records. This decision abruptly halted the young cricketer’s rise in the India Under-19 team.
Rohit was recently selected for the India U-19 squad for an upcoming series against Australia. However, during an age-verification process conducted by the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), inconsistencies were found in his date of birth and address details over the years.
Records showed that Rohit’s date of birth was updated multiple times. Initially, it was listed as July 7, 2007, but later changed to 2006 and then to 2009 through various Aadhaar updates. His address also shifted from Uttar Pradesh to Howrah and Liluah over time.
The CAB noticed these discrepancies earlier this year during a review of players’ documents as per BCCI instructions. After investigating, the BCCI imposed the two-year ban on Rohit.
This suspension will affect his participation in domestic and age-group cricket. The BCCI is expected to replace him in the India U-19 squad for the series against Australia.
Rohit had been rising through Bengal’s age-group system and recently earned a call-up to the national U-19 team. He performed well in matches, including picking up six wickets during a Youth Test against Sri Lanka U-19.
However, his promising career has now been put on hold due to the age-related issues discovered during verification.
