The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold a meeting in Mumbai on Thursday with head coach Gautam Gambhir, selector chairman Ajit Agarkar, and Centre of Excellence (CoE) chief VVS Laxman. The discussion will focus on India’s recent defeats to Ireland and England in away limited-overs series.
India’s new captain Shreyas Iyer had a tough start, leading the team to a 0-2 loss against Ireland and a 0-4 loss against England in T20Is. They also lost the ODI series 1-2 to England. A source confirmed that the meeting will address both the losses and injury issues.
The BCCI initially planned the meeting after India’s ODI series but postponed it. They recently announced the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, including injured players Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who may not play due to fitness concerns.
Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif criticized the BCCI for failing to appoint a sports science head at the CoE in Bengaluru amid an injury crisis. The BCCI recently held a press conference to highlight the CoE’s role beyond rehabilitation and address workload issues during the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Hardik Pandya has not played since injuring himself during IPL 2026, making his availability for the 2027 ODI World Cup uncertain. India needs to win at least six of their last seven Test matches to qualify for the World Test Championship final. Currently fifth with 68 points, they face New Zealand in November’s two-match series.
