The BJP has recently criticized the Congress party for its senior leader P. Chidambaram’s statement where he proudly claimed to be a “dimagi Naxal.” The BJP argues that this admission shows the Congress now identifies itself not just as a “Muslim League Maoist Congress,” but also as a “Dimagi Naxal Congress.”
BJP National Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi made this claim during a press conference at party headquarters. He emphasized that Chidambaram’s own words leave no room for doubt, confirming the Congress’s new identity.
Chidambaram had earlier responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism of “dimagi Naxals,” who are allegedly involved in manipulating policies to cause harm. Chidambaram stated, “I am proud to be a ‘dimagi naxal,’” in response to Modi’s warning about such individuals.
Modi had previously warned against these ideological supporters of Maoism during his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort. He highlighted that while armed Maoism has been reduced, its influence continues to pose a threat to society through political manipulation.
Trivedi pointed out how quickly the Congress reacted to Modi’s remarks, revealing their alignment with Naxal ideology. The BJP had previously accused the Congress of being too close to Maoist groups and practicing appeasement politics.
Opposition parties have criticized Modi’s use of the term “dimagi Naxals,” accusing him of stigmatizing dissent and political opposition.
