BJP MP Janardan Mishra recently defended India’s ethanol policy during a speech in Rewa. He addressed concerns about mixing ethanol into petrol and challenged critics by asking, “Will pure petrol come from your father’s house?”
Mishra explained that India only produces 20% of its crude oil, with the remaining 80% imported from other countries. He mentioned global supply issues, stating that ships travel an extra 18,000 km to deliver oil. He argued that adding ethanol helps reduce reliance on imported oil.
He pointed out that vehicles in India can run on petrol mixed with ethanol, but some people oppose it despite expert reassurances that ethanol doesn’t harm engines. Mishra also referenced Brazil, where vehicles use 100% ethanol without issues, as proof of ethanol’s viability.
He concluded by highlighting India’s progress, noting that inflation is low and employment rates are high compared to other countries.
