“BJP Questions Tamil Nadu Assembly’s Resolution Authority”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, January 23, 2026, raised questions about a resolution recently passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The resolution opposed several parts of the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, also called the VB-G RAM G Act.

BJP leaders asked whether a State Assembly has the right to oppose a law passed by Parliament.

At a press conference, BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “If a Bill is passed properly by the Parliament and the Supreme Court has not raised any objections, can any State Assembly legally pass a resolution against it?”

The BJP’s statement highlights the ongoing debate over the powers of State Assemblies versus the Parliament. The party argued that laws passed by Parliament should take precedence, and states may not have the authority to reject or oppose them through resolutions.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly’s resolution comes amid discussions on how central government schemes are implemented in different states. Some state leaders feel they should have more control over the rules and benefits that affect local people.

The issue now raises important questions about constitutional powers, the balance between central and state governments, and how national laws are applied at the state level.
