A five-member delegation from Brazil’s football federation visited the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Thursday to prepare for an upcoming friendly match against India. The officials arrived early in the morning and first checked the hospitality arrangements. Later, they inspected the training facilities with Subrata Paul, a former Indian goalkeeper and current AIFF official.
The Brazilian team spent time examining the training grounds before moving to the main stadium. They carefully looked at the field, checking every detail, including when the grass was last replaced. The officials did not speak to media during their visit.
West Bengal’s sports minister stated that the delegation is satisfied with the preparations. He called the upcoming match a historic event. The Salt Lake Stadium is currently hosting the Durand Cup, and the Brazilian team has asked for an update on the field’s grass after 15 days. They might return to Kolkata for another inspection if needed.
Meanwhile, India may host another match against Cape Verde, which recently impressed in the World Cup. This potential game could take place around September 30 to October 6. Discussions are ongoing about the date and venue, with options including Salt Lake Stadium or Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The AIFF has sent a letter to Cape Verde’s football federation, and a formal announcement is expected soon.
Cape Verde, ranked 64th globally, made a strong impression in the World Cup by reaching the last-32 stage and having an unbeaten group campaign. They were eliminated after losing to Argentina.
