The Milwaukee Brewers have made changes to their pitching staff. After acquiring veteran pitcher Dustin May from the St. Louis Cardinals, they sent rookie right-hander Brandon Sproat to Triple-A Nashville. Sproat, who had been with the team since being acquired in the offseason trade for Freddy Peralta, struggled this season. He was 3-7 with a high ERA of 5.27 and had issues with walks and wild pitches.
Dustin May, acquired along with reliever JoJo Romero, is set to make his debut for Milwaukee on Thursday against Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, left-hander Kyle Harrison, who has been on the injured list since July 9, will return to start Wednesday’s game.
Manager Pat Murphy explained that the decision was made after evaluating what’s best for both the player and the team. Sproat had not won a game since June 30 and faced consistency issues in his recent starts. Murphy emphasized the need for better control and fewer mistakes on the mound.
In addition to sending Sproat down, the Brewers also optioned reliever Garrett Stallings to Triple-A Nashville. The team added two new pitchers: JoJo Romero from St. Louis and Antonio Senzatela from Colorado.
