CEC Impeachment Delayed: INDIA Bloc’s Public Challenge Postponed

The INDIA bloc has postponed its planned public event concerning the impeachment move against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to October 31. The event was originally scheduled for October 30 but was delayed due to bad weather in New Delhi, according to sources.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to address the media as part of the programme. The announcement is likely to bring attention to the opposition’s concerns about the Election Commission and the process of updating voter lists.

The INDIA bloc has accused Gyanesh Kumar of electoral manipulation linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The SIR exercise is used to review and update voter lists. Opposition leaders have raised concerns about how the process is being carried out and its possible impact on voters.

The opposition had planned to publicly present its position on the proposed impeachment move. However, the leaders decided to postpone the event, saying they did not want their actions to be viewed as disrespectful towards Parliament as an institution.

The development comes amid continuing disagreements between the opposition parties and the Election Commission over the voter-list revision process. The opposition has called for greater accountability and transparency in the electoral system.

The programme is now expected to take place on October 31, when Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders may explain their concerns and the next steps in their proposed action against the Chief Election Commissioner.

It is important to note that a public event announcing or discussing an impeachment move is not itself a formal impeachment proceeding under the Constitution.
