Residents of the Jain Westminster apartment complex in Saligramam have been facing sleepless nights after a portion of the ceiling collapsed in the building. An inspection by the CUBE team revealed that the building’s construction involved the use of saline water, leading to a high chloride content.
This chloride content was identified as the cause behind the ceiling collapse and the detachment of plaster from the walls. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has requested the CUBE team to conduct a thorough inspection.
Residents had previously experienced issues like peeling plaster in 2017, which were initially attributed to bathroom leakage. The building’s owners association has spent around ₹4.8 crore in repairs over the last year and a half due to various issues, including cracks in the walls.
