Cheetah Gamini Gives Birth to Three Cubs

A South African cheetah named Gamini has given birth to three cubs at Kuno National Park, raising India’s total cheetah population to 38. This is another positive step in India’s cheetah conservation efforts.

Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav shared the news on social media. He said that with the birth of these cubs, the number of surviving cheetah cubs born in India has increased to 27. He also mentioned that this is the ninth successful cheetah litter recorded in the country since the project began.

Gamini has become a mother for the second time, which is seen as an encouraging sign for the success of the programme. The birth is especially meaningful as it comes three years after cheetahs were reintroduced to India from South Africa under Project Cheetah.

The minister said that every successful birth strengthens Project Cheetah and shows that the conservation efforts are moving in the right direction. He added that increasing the cheetah population is an important milestone in restoring the species in India and ensuring its long-term survival.
