Chennai Completes 1,123 Projects Under Singara Chennai 2.0

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu announced that civic agencies, including the Greater Chennai Corporation, have successfully completed 1,123 projects under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative, bringing visible improvements to the city’s infrastructure.

The Singara Chennai 2.0 programme was launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin after the DMK government came to power in 2021, with the goal of modernising Chennai and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The initiative focuses on a wide range of civic development projects, including the construction and repair of roads, improvement of drainage systems, development of public parks and spaces, street lighting, and other urban infrastructure projects.

While presenting the interim budget for 2026-27 on Tuesday, Mr. Thennarasu said that a total of 1,227 projects have been taken up under the initiative, with an estimated cost of ₹2,491 crore. Out of these, 1,123 projects have already been completed, reflecting the government’s efforts to accelerate urban development and deliver services efficiently to citizens.

The completed projects have already started benefiting Chennai residents, with better roads, improved water drainage, safer public spaces, and cleaner streets. According to the Finance Minister, the remaining projects are expected to be completed soon, further transforming the city’s infrastructure and contributing to its vision of becoming a modern, smart, and sustainable urban centre.

Officials said that Singara Chennai 2.0 has also focused on citizen-centric services, such as improving waste management systems, upgrading community facilities, and creating more recreational spaces for families and children. The government hopes that the initiative will not only enhance urban amenities but also attract investment and boost Chennai’s economic growth in the coming years.

By integrating modern planning, technology, and community participation, Singara Chennai 2.0 aims to ensure that Chennai becomes a model city with better living standards, sustainable infrastructure, and a cleaner and safer environment for all residents.
