Chennai Faces Continued Rain and Flooding

Even though Cyclone Ditwah has weakened into a depression, it is
still causing damage in Tamil Nadu’s coastal districts. On Thursday, December 4,
the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for four districts
because of expected heavy rainfall. Weather conditions are expected to remain unstable,
especially in the northern coastal areas of the state.

According to the IMD, places in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and
Karaikal, may receive light to moderate rain. Thunderstorms and lightning are also
likely in some areas.

Chennai and nearby districts have been getting continuous rain for the past few days.
Many roads are flooded, and several neighbourhoods are waterlogged. Because of this,
traffic has slowed down and travel has become difficult in many parts of the city
and surrounding regions.

The IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall warning for Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri,
Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Ramanathapuram. Rain is expected to
continue in these places until December 5. Residents are advised to be careful
and follow weather updates.
