Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase-II stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani, passing through Porur, saw an important second round of inspection and speed trials on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said that the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) arrived in the city on Tuesday morning to oversee the process. The safety inspection and train trials started around 12 p.m.
During the speed trials, the trains were run at different speeds to check for any technical problems. Between Poonamallee and Porur, trains were tested at 40 km/h and 80 km/h, while from Porur to Vadapalani, the trains were run at 40 km/h. Officials said these tests help ensure that the trains operate safely and smoothly before opening the line to the public.
CMRL also mentioned that these inspections are part of standard procedures for all new metro stretches. The trials allow engineers to identify and fix potential issues in the track, signaling system, and train operations. Passengers can expect improved safety and reliability once the stretch is inaugurated.
The Phase-II expansion of Chennai Metro Rail aims to connect more suburbs to the city center, reduce traffic congestion, and provide faster, safer travel options for daily commuters. Officials have said that once all tests are completed successfully, the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch will soon be ready for public operations.
