Chennai Metro Rail Phase II: Construction of Underground Stations Begins in Corridor 3

The construction of underground stations for Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II project has commenced at locations such as Otteri, Pattalam, and Perambur under Corridor 3 (Madhavaram to SIPCOT via Thirumayilai). Corridor 3 is the longest in the Phase II project, covering a total length of 45.4 km and connecting areas from Madhavaram to SIPCOT via Thirumayilai.

The construction is a significant milestone, considering the delays in the initial stages of the project. Tunnel work and station construction have gained momentum, with officials noting that underground stations are more challenging and time-consuming to build than elevated stations. The Pattalam station, in particular, is a stacked station with concourse, upper track line, and downward track line across three levels.
