The Chicago Bears have finished two weeks of training camp and are just one week away from their first preseason game. Coaches are starting to decide which players will make the final roster and which ones are still competing for spots.
Braxton Jones, a key player at left tackle, got injured late in the week, changing things up. Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kiran Amegadjie took turns as starters during practice. Meanwhile, undrafted free agent Theo Benedet did not get any starter reps, suggesting he might be at risk of being cut.
Roschon Johnson has had some good practices, but D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai are still ahead of him on the depth chart. With one open spot left, competition is intense. Salvon Ahmed, who was re-signed in May, has shown promise, while undrafted rookie Coleman Bennett is also making a strong case for himself.
Ruben Hyppolite II, a linebacker drafted last year, has struggled to impress so far. He spent most of his rookie season not playing and hasn’t stood out in camp this year. The Bears seem ready to move on from him if he doesn’t improve soon.
Tyrique Stevenson has been inconsistent, as noted by coaches early in camp. Despite the secondary being thin due to Cam Lewis’s injury, Stevenson still needs to show more consistency to make the team.
These four players have a chance to prove themselves during preseason games. However, they are closer to being cut than securing a spot as the Bears prepare for the 2026 season.
