China Earthquake Kills Two, Damages Guangxi

A strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck southwest China’s Guangxi region on Monday, causing deaths, injuries, building damage, and major disruption across the affected areas.

According to Chinese authorities, the earthquake hit near Liuzhou city in Guangxi province at a shallow depth. Because the quake occurred close to the surface, the tremors were felt more strongly in nearby towns and cities, increasing the level of destruction.

Officials confirmed that at least two people were killed in the disaster. Several buildings were damaged, with reports of cracked structures, fallen debris, and damage to roads and public facilities. Transport services in some areas were also disrupted as authorities assessed safety risks.

Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate their homes and workplaces after the strong tremors. People rushed out of houses, offices, and shopping centers in fear as the ground shook unexpectedly.

Emergency rescue teams were quickly deployed to affected areas to assist victims, inspect damaged structures, and provide support for displaced residents. Local authorities are continuing relief efforts while monitoring the possibility of aftershocks.

The China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC) said the shallow depth of the quake intensified the shaking, making it more dangerous despite its moderate magnitude.

Officials are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and have urged residents to remain cautious. The earthquake serves as another reminder of the seismic risks faced by several regions in China.
