The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a strong warning to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. On September 24, 2026, they demanded his resignation, accusing him of “undermining” voter rights. The party threatened a nationwide protest, including a major rally in Delhi called “Jantar Mantar 2.0,” if Kumar does not step down within two days.
At a press conference in Delhi, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that free and fair elections cannot be ensured with Kumar in his current role. He claimed the electoral process has been “rigged” and citizens’ voting rights are being suppressed. Dipke emphasized that if Kumar refuses to resign, protests will escalate across the country.
CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka outlined three demands during the press conference. First, he called for Kumar’s immediate resignation and criminal charges against him. Second, he demanded a halt to all upcoming elections and the restoration of pre-SIR voter rolls. Third, he urged the formation of an independent inquiry commission to investigate the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process conducted by the Election Commission.
Ranka also criticized the 2023 Act governing the appointment of election commissioners. He argued for a new law that involves civil society groups in the selection process. Dipke addressed young people, urging them to “come forward” to protect their voting rights and hold the government accountable.
The CJP’s threats came after reports revealed internal disputes within the Election Commission regarding the SIR process. Two election commissioners had raised concerns about the handling of electoral rolls. The party has also called on opposition parties to take a stand against alleged election rigging, accusing them of hypocrisy for participating in elections while criticizing irregularities.
The situation remains tense as the CJP prepares to mobilize protests nationwide if its demands are not met.
