Congress Divided Over Legal Case Against Pinarayi Vijayan

Fresh political tensions have emerged within the Congress party in Kerala over its response to the legal case involving Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his family and the CMRL-Exalogic payment controversy. The issue has led to disagreements among Congress leaders, with some questioning the party’s approach to the allegations.

The controversy gained attention after United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Adoor Prakash raised concerns about the matter. His remarks reportedly triggered discussions within the Congress and brought differences of opinion among party members into the open.

Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, has faced criticism from some Congress members over his approach to the issue. These members believe that his response has been too soft towards Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena and his son-in-law P.A. Mohammed Riyas. They want the party to take a stronger position on the allegations and raise the matter more firmly against the ruling side.

At the centre of the controversy is the CMRL-Exalogic payment case, which concerns alleged financial dealings between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions, a company associated with T. Veena. The allegations have raised questions about the payments and whether they involved any wrongdoing. However, the allegations must be distinguished from any final legal finding of guilt.

The issue has created a challenge for the Congress leadership as it seeks to maintain a united position against the ruling government in Kerala. While some leaders appear to favour a stronger political campaign over the case, others have raised concerns about the way the issue is being handled within the party.

The disagreement also highlights wider differences among Congress leaders over political strategy, public statements and how to respond to legal controversies involving senior figures in the state government.

The developments could put additional pressure on the Congress leadership to clarify its position and coordinate its response. For now, the dispute reflects growing internal differences over how the party should address the CMRL-Exalogic case and use the issue in its political criticism of the government.
