Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has called for the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar due to alleged irregularities in the update of voter lists. He also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation, claiming Modi pressured the election chief.
Kharge raised these issues at a key meeting of the Congress Working Committee in Delhi. He said the party will protest and raise concerns in Parliament over the electoral roll discrepancies and election process.
He outlined five demands: making all changes to voter lists public, allowing those removed from lists to appeal, providing simplified voter lists to parties, conducting an independent probe into irregularities, and ensuring transparency in the election process.
Kharge criticized the CEC for acting unfairly and supporting the ruling party. He argued that such behavior makes Gyanesh Kumar unfit for his position and demands his removal.
The Congress leader also called on PM Modi to resign due to moral concerns over alleged pressure on the election chief. Kharge emphasized the need for fair elections, independent institutions, and protection of every Indian’s vote.
He stressed that these principles are fundamental to India’s democracy and vowed the Congress will take action to uphold them. Kharge praised Rahul Gandhi and other party members for supporting his allegations against the CEC and BJP.
