The Congress party criticized the government after the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced a retest for three papers—English, Commerce, and Sociology—from the June 2026 UGC-NET exam. The Opposition questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s responsibility in addressing the issue.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted that nearly two months after the exam, the NTA admitted to errors in the question papers, including misspelled scholar names, incorrect book titles, and language mistakes. He also pointed out that many questions were repeated from previous exams.
The retest will be held on September 9 and 10. Ramesh questioned why students should face penalties for systemic errors and demanded accountability for such negligence in a national exam affecting millions of young people’s careers.
The NTA had conducted the UGC-NET exam from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects. After receiving complaints about errors, it decided to retest the three papers to ensure fairness. No additional fee will be charged for the retest.
Congress urged the government to explain the delay in results and how affected students would be compensated for missing this year’s academic opportunities tied to exam outcomes.
