In an embarrassing incident for the Congress party in Kerala, party workers sang the national anthem wrongly during the party’s 140th foundation day celebrations. The event was held at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters on Saturday and was attended by several senior leaders, including former Defence Minister A.K. Antony.
As part of the programme, leaders and party workers stood up for the national anthem. However, the lead singer made a mistake in the very first line. Instead of singing the correct words, “Jana-gana-mana-adhinayaka jaya he,” the singer began with “Jana-gana-mangala-dayaka jaya he.”
The mistake was noticed immediately and caused embarrassment among those present. A video of the incident soon began circulating on social media, drawing criticism and sharp reactions from the public and political opponents. Many people pointed out that political parties should show greater care and respect while singing the national anthem.
The Congress party has not issued an official statement on the incident so far. The episode has sparked a debate on the importance of correctly following national symbols and maintaining dignity during public events.
