Crane Collapse Injures Eight in Mumbai’s Kurla

A crane fell onto houses in Mumbai’s Kurla East area on Friday morning, August 21, 2026, leaving eight people injured. The incident took place near Buntara Bhavan, close to MHADA Building and Galaxy Apartment in the Indira Nagar area.

According to officials, the crane was being used during preparations for an eviction and demolition operation. The machine suddenly toppled and fell onto nearby houses, causing damage and injuring people in the area.

The incident created panic among local residents. People rushed out of their homes after the crane fell, while emergency teams were called to the spot to assist those who were injured.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that eight people were injured in the incident. Six of them were taken to Sion Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors reported that all six were in stable condition.

Two other injured people were taken to Kurla Bhabha Hospital. They were also reported to be in stable condition, according to officials.

Rescue and emergency teams worked at the site to help the injured and assess the situation. Officials also began checking the affected area to understand the extent of the damage caused by the fallen crane.

The crane was reportedly involved in preparations for an eviction and demolition drive being carried out by MHADA. The exact reason why the crane toppled has not yet been fully established. Authorities are expected to examine the equipment and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident has raised concerns among residents living near the demolition site, particularly about safety measures during such operations. Officials are likely to investigate whether all necessary precautions were followed before the crane was used.

At present, all eight injured people are reported to be stable. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and inspect the affected area.
