In Manipur, violence broke out between two groups on August 24, 2026. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sub-inspector was hurt, and at least two houses were burned.
Unknown individuals set fire to a house in Taphou Kuki village during early hours. Another house was torched in nearby Taphou Naga village. After 9 a.m., the groups clashed with firearms, catching the CRPF officer in crossfire. He was rushed to a hospital.
Locals blocked National Highway-2 for several hours following the violence. Security forces stepped up patrols on the highway and in affected villages.
Taphou Kuki village leaders condemned the arson as “horrifying” and urged peace. They called for authorities to investigate and bring justice.
Public transport on NH-2 continued despite the unrest. Hundreds of passengers, including women and children, traveled safely under heavy security from Imphal to Dimapur and Guwahati.
The Manipur government stated that buses departed later than planned due to the incident but reached their destinations without issues. Passengers traveling from Guwahati arrived in Imphal safely on August 24 with no problems.
Authorities ensured security along the highway, preventing further escalation of the situation. Both sides agreed to maintain peace moving forward.
