CUMTA to Survey 4.55 Km of Chengalpattu Roads

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) will conduct a survey of 4.55 km of roads in Chengalpattu to find ways to improve road space and reduce traffic congestion. The survey will help the authority prepare a plan to make roads safer and improve traffic movement.

As part of the survey, officials will collect detailed information about the roads and their surroundings. This will include road measurements, nearby buildings and drainage facilities. The information will help officials understand the existing road conditions and identify areas that need improvement.

According to CUMTA, the survey will cover three road stretches in Chengalpattu. The first stretch is a 1.9 km section of State Highway Urban Stretch Six (SHU 6), which passes through Sadras, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Arakkonam and Tiruttani Road.

The second stretch covers 2.3 km of Chengalpattu Main Road. The third section includes 350 metres of PV Kalathur Road. Together, these three stretches account for a total of 4.55 km.

The survey is expected to provide important details about the current road layout, the space available for vehicles and pedestrians, and the condition of drainage infrastructure. These details will help the authority prepare a suitable plan for improving the roads.

Traffic congestion is a major concern in busy urban areas, where vehicles, pedestrians and roadside activities often compete for limited road space. A detailed survey can help officials understand these challenges and plan improvements based on actual road conditions.

The findings may also help identify areas where better use of existing road space and improvements to infrastructure could support smoother traffic movement. Information about nearby buildings and drainage systems will be useful when planning any changes to the road layout.

Through this initiative, CUMTA aims to develop a better understanding of road conditions in Chengalpattu before preparing its improvement plan. The survey will serve as an important step towards planning more efficient roads and easing traffic congestion in the area.
