Cyber Fraud Creates Fake FB Account Posing as KAS Officer

The Central Cybercrime Police are actively searching for a cyber fraudster who, impersonating a KAS (Karnataka Administrative Service) officer, attempted to deceive people. Following a complaint by V. Nagaraja, an employee at Khanija Bhavan, the police registered a case against the unidentified individual under Section 66C (identity theft) of the IT Act.

The fraudster created a Facebook account in the name of Nagaraja KAS and sent messages to his friends claiming that his supposed friend, Santosh Kumar, working in the CRPF, was selling furniture for ₹60,000 due to a transfer. The imposter shared Santosh Kumar’s contact number and payment details for potential victims. The scheme unraveled when friends contacted Nagaraja to verify the information. Investigations are ongoing.
