Cyclone ‘Arnab’ Updates

A deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal strengthened into Cyclonic Storm Arnab on Monday, October 26, 2026. The storm is moving westward at a speed of around 15 kilometres per hour and is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to parts of the eastern coast of India.

According to the reported storm position, Cyclone Arnab is located around 590 kilometres northwest of Sri Vijaya Puram in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is also about 650 kilometres east-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 730 kilometres east-southeast of Kakinada, 830 kilometres east of Machilipatnam and 910 kilometres east of Bapatla.

The cyclone is expected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, with the area between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam identified as the likely landfall region. The storm could intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds reaching up to 125 kilometres per hour. Such strong winds and heavy rainfall could damage houses, uproot trees, disrupt electricity supplies and affect road and transport services in coastal areas.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed government officials to remain alert and take the necessary precautionary measures. Authorities have been asked to prepare for the possible impact of the cyclone, with a focus on protecting people and reducing the risk of loss of life. Officials are expected to monitor the storm closely and ensure that emergency arrangements are ready in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon continues to bring rainfall to Tamil Nadu. Heavy showers were reported in several parts of the state on Sunday, October 25, and more rainfall is expected through October 27. The continuing rain could lead to waterlogging, traffic delays and temporary disruption to daily activities in some areas.

People living in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and rain-affected parts of Tamil Nadu are advised to follow official weather updates and instructions from local authorities. Fishermen should pay attention to warnings about sea conditions, while residents in vulnerable areas should remain prepared for possible changes in the weather.

As Cyclone Arnab approaches the eastern coastline, authorities are continuing to monitor its movement and potential strength. The storm’s exact path and intensity may change, making regular updates from the India Meteorological Department important for public safety.
