The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), led by general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant, has officially joined the DMK alliance. This marks the first time the DMDK has become part of the DMK-led coalition since the party was founded in 2005.
Premallatha met Chief Minister MK Stalin at the DMK headquarters in Chennai to confirm the decision. After the meeting, she spoke to reporters and said that the number of seats allocated to the DMDK in the alliance will be decided later. The final seat-sharing arrangement will come after discussions with a committee set up by the DMK to negotiate with all alliance parties.
Political analysts say this development could strengthen the DMK alliance in the upcoming elections, as the DMDK has a significant voter base in several districts. Premallatha emphasized that the party is committed to working closely with the DMK and other allies to ensure a coordinated election campaign.
The DMDK’s entry into the DMK alliance is being seen as a major political move, as it brings together multiple parties under one umbrella to counter opposition forces in the state.
