The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out three back-to-back flight tests of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS). The tests were conducted at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, located off the coast of Odisha.
According to the Defence Ministry, these trials were done to once again confirm the missile system’s ability to stop and destroy high-speed aerial threats. The system was tested against targets flying at different speeds, distances, and heights to check its performance under various conditions.
During all three tests, the VSHORADS missiles successfully tracked, intercepted, and destroyed the high-speed aerial targets. These targets were designed to imitate enemy aircraft in different threat situations. The system met all required performance standards, including extreme engagement conditions.
Officials said the successful trials show that the VSHORADS missile system is reliable and effective in protecting against short-range air threats. The system is designed to strengthen India’s air defence capability, especially for protecting vital areas and military units from enemy aircraft, drones, and other aerial attacks.
The successful testing marks an important step in boosting India’s indigenous defence technology and enhancing national security.
