DRI Busts Gold Smuggling Racket, 11 Arrested

Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have arrested 11
people for allegedly being part of a gold smuggling group. The DRI also seized 11.
88 kg of gold worth ₹15 crore and 8.77 kg of silver worth ₹13.77 lakh.
According to DRI officials, they received information that some places in
Kalbadevi and Mazgaon were being used to melt and process smuggled gold. The
melted gold was then sold in the local market through a trading office located
on Mumbadevi Road. Based on this information, officers conducted searches at all
three locations.
A DRI official said the investigation is still at a very important stage, and
efforts are being made to find other members involved in the smuggling network.
