In a tragic accident early Thursday morning, a pickup van driver lost his
life when a large girder fell onto his vehicle on the national highway.
The girder was part of the ongoing construction work for the Aroor–Thuravoor
elevated highway.
The victim has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Haripad.
The accident happened around 3 a.m., and Rajesh died on the spot due to
the heavy impact.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene soon after the incident. They had to cut
open the badly damaged van to remove Rajesh’s body. His body was later taken
to a nearby hospital for postmortem examination.
Police have started an investigation to find out how the girder collapsed
and whether safety rules were followed during the construction work.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at highway
construction sites.
