EAM Jaishankar Meets Russian Counterpart Lavrov for Talks on Bilateral and Global Issues

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held extensive discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two leaders talked about cooperation between India and Russia, global challenges, and issues related to multilateral organizations.

According to the TASS news agency, they also discussed the situations in Ukraine, Iran, and Afghanistan. Mr. Jaishankar shared updates on these topics on his social media platform X.

Jaishankar visited Moscow from August 23 to 24, 2026. His visit came before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s planned trip to India for the BRICS summit in September.

During their meeting, the two foreign ministers focused on international issues and coordinated approaches on Afghanistan, Iran, and Ukraine. They also emphasized working together within organizations like the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS, and G20.

The talks highlighted the importance of strengthening trust-based dialogue between India and Russia. Both countries aim to deepen economic ties and expand cooperation in various fields.

On August 24, Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss economic relations, including trade, energy, fertilizers, and nuclear cooperation. They also co-chaired a meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.
