Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Sunday said that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election would be the “last election” for the ruling DMK government. He expressed confidence that the people of the state would vote the DMK out of power.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai after paying homage to language martyrs, Palaniswami strongly criticised the DMK. He said the party had failed to keep many of the promises it made during the 2021 Assembly election. According to him, the government has not met the expectations of the public and has disappointed people across the state.
EPS said that because of this, the DMK has been exposed and is slowly losing the support of voters. He claimed that people are unhappy with the government’s performance and are looking for a change.
He also responded to comments made by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay, who had earlier described the AIADMK as corrupt. The opposition party hit back at Vijay and defended its record, saying the allegations were baseless.
Palaniswami said the AIADMK is confident of returning to power in the next election. “In the coming election, voters will bid farewell to the DMK and bring the AIADMK back to power,” he said.
The political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu is expected to heat up as parties begin preparing for the 2026 Assembly polls.
