European Parliament Approves €90 Billion for Ukraine

The European Parliament has approved a loan package worth 90 billion euros to support Ukraine. Members of the European Parliament voted on the proposal and passed three new laws that will allow the European Union to give financial help to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027.

This decision comes as the war between Ukraine and Russia enters its fifth year. Ukraine is facing serious financial pressure due to the ongoing conflict, damage to infrastructure, and high defence costs. The EU said the support is necessary to help Ukraine manage its economy and continue defending itself.

Out of the total 90 billion euros, 30 billion euros will be used for macro-financial assistance and general budget support. This money will be provided through the EU’s Ukraine Facility and will help Ukraine pay for essential public services, salaries, and rebuilding efforts.

The remaining 60 billion euros will be used to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities. This includes buying military equipment and improving security systems. EU leaders said the support shows their continued commitment to stand with Ukraine during the conflict.

The financial package now moves forward for implementation, with funds expected to be released in stages over the next two years.
