Five Indian Athletes Who Missed Medals at 2026 Asian Games

India has won 15 medals at the 2026 Asian Games, including one gold, six silver, and eight bronze. However, some athletes came close to winning medals but fell short.

Quimcy Dsouza nearly earned India’s first teqball medal. She reached the semifinals and lost to Indonesia’s Ima Sumaya. In the bronze match, she faced Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto and lost 0-2. Later, with partner Mohamed Anas Beg, she competed in mixed doubles but lost to Vietnam.

Chetan Bhatt was close to a karate medal in the men’s 84kg category. He lost 0-8 in the semifinal and faced Chinese Taipei’s Meng-yu Chung in the bronze playoff. The match ended 1-1, but Chung won under the Senshu rule, leaving Bhatt without a medal.

Manu Bhaker, a double Olympic medallist, missed the podium in women’s 10m air pistol. She finished fifth in the final after scoring 181.1 points and being eliminated on her 18th shot. South Korea’s Choo Gaeun won gold, while China took silver and bronze.

Gyaneshwari Yadav placed eighth in women’s 53kg weightlifting. Despite lifting a total of 195kg, she failed to medal. North Korea’s Kang Hyon Gyong won gold with 223kg, followed by China’s Zhao Jinlan and Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao.

Balraj Panwar narrowly missed a medal in men’s single sculls rowing. He finished fourth after being overtaken in the final stretch. China’s Deng Zhiwei won gold, Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev took silver, and Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama claimed bronze.
