Flight Fares Triple Ahead of Long Weekend

In Chennai, air ticket prices have risen sharply ahead of the long weekend due to Good Friday and Easter. The three-day holiday has increased travel demand, making flights much more expensive for passengers.

Flights from Chennai to nearby cities and neighbouring states have seen fares rise by almost three times. For example, tickets to Hyderabad, which usually cost around ₹6,000, are now priced close to ₹19,000. Similarly, fares to Kochi have increased from ₹4,000 to nearly ₹18,000.

Travel to Bengaluru has also become expensive, with ticket prices rising from about ₹3,500 to ₹16,000. Even flights within Tamil Nadu are not spared. Routes such as Chennai to Madurai have also seen a sharp rise in fares due to heavy demand.

Airline officials and travel experts explain that such price increases are common during peak travel periods like long weekends and festivals. During these times, more people travel for vacations, family visits, or short trips. Since the number of available seats is limited, airlines increase ticket prices based on demand.

Many travellers have expressed concern over the sudden rise in fares, especially those making last-minute bookings. Some passengers said they were forced to either postpone their travel plans or look for alternative options like trains or buses.

Experts advise travellers to plan their trips early and book tickets in advance to avoid high costs. Flexible travel dates and early reservations can help reduce expenses during busy seasons.

Overall, the holiday rush has made air travel significantly more expensive, highlighting the impact of seasonal demand on ticket pricing.
