Foxconn Hires 30,000 Staff for Bengaluru Factory

Foxconn, Apple’s main contract manufacturer, has hired nearly 30,000 workers for its
new iPhone assembly factory in Devanahalli, near Bengaluru. This huge recruitment drive,
completed in just nine months, is the fastest factory scale-up ever in India.

The 300-acre facility is a key part of Apple’s plan to expand manufacturing outside China.
The workforce is notable because about 80% of the employees are women. Most workers are
aged between 19 and 24 and are joining the formal job market for the first time.
