Yashasvi Jaiswal of India had a funny conversation with Niroshan Dickwella of Sri Lanka during the first Test in Galle. The chat happened while Sri Lanka was chasing runs on Day Five.
Jaiswal, fielding at slip, started talking to Dickwella before his dismissal. He joked about Dickwella’s first-innings knock of 80, which included seven boundaries. “Come on, yaar, we need to see something,” Jaiswal said, encouraging Dickwella to hit the ball harder.
Dickwella responded with a playful condition: “No requirements. Take me to the IPL, and I’ll hit.” Jaiswal laughed and urged him to play a big shot, promising an IPL spot if he scored a six.
However, Dickwella’s fun ended quickly when Prasidh Krishna dismissed him in the 60th over with short balls. Sri Lanka fell behind at 156/6.
India won the Test by 165 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. India scored 462 in their first innings, thanks to Devdutt Padikkal’s 167 and KL Rahul’s 82. Sri Lanka fought back, with Sonal Dinusha scoring his first Test century (84) and Dickwella hitting 80.
In the second innings, India scored 193, setting Sri Lanka a target of 372. Despite Dinusha’s 84 and Dhananjaya de Silva’s 59, Sri Lanka fell short by 165 runs.
The match ended with India leading 1-0 in the two-match series.
